Fahmi pledges assistance to support troubled KL City

KUALA LUMPUR: The good news is being communicated: help is on the way for financially troubled KL City FC.

The bringer of the good news is Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil.

Fahmi, who has been the Kuala Lumpur FA patron since June 2023, said he is working on helping the KL players get the salaries owing to them.

“I feel a sense of responsibility to help, and not only because I am a member of parliament in Kuala Lumpur. There are a couple of responsibilities I feel I need to fulfil,” said Fahmi during the Green Tea Programme hosted by Kuala Lumpur City Hall at KLFA Stadium today.

When asked whether KL City had paid 50 per cent of the outstanding salary arrears before

Friday’s deadline set by the Malaysian Football League, Fahmi said they are working on it.

Fahmi said two days ago, he met with Stanley Bernard (KL City chief executive officer), Dr. Zaliha Mustafa (Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Federal Territories) and KL mayor Datuk Kamarulzaman Mat Salleh to resolve the salary issue.

“I have asked Kamarulzaman to call the MFL to express our commitment to resolving the matter, especially for the players.

“I want to ensure that KL City will be ready to start their season, and hopefully next week, I will come down (to watch preseason training).

It is learnt that KLFA president Khalid Samad had stepped down from his post.

Stanley thanked Khalid for his services. “He’s been a fantastic president, one of the best in history. He’s been the bigger person and outstanding,”said Stanley.

Meanwhile Stanley said assistant coach Miroslav Kuljanac will be appointed as KL City’s new head coach following Nenad Bacina’s resignation.
